Cervical Comfort Support Towel - If you have a stiff neck, or neck pain when lying on your back, try this tip shared by Karen Bennett, a massage therapist, and MCWR alumni. Take a regular bath towel, lay it flat, fold the two long sides toward the center, while leaving a 1/2-inch gap between the two edges. Next, from one end, start rolling the towel until the roll is big enough or equal to the arch in your neck. Transition into a horizontal position and lay your neck across the towel roll, with your neck vertebrae cradled in the divot. Let your body relax as the towel gently supports your head. This will help align your vertebrae. Start with a 10-minute session. If you find this to be helpful increase the length of time. This practice is also helpful in opening your chest and airway. Relax and enjoy.
Irritated skin from radiation -. The skin can become very irritated and thickened with the radiation. In addition to the creams prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist, patients suggest the following products as a comfort measure.
Calendula cream is anti-inflammatory, and may be applied after the treatment has been completed. If you are allergic to marigolds do not use this preparation.
Eichers Goat milk body cream has been used with good results.
Be sure to talk to your Radiation Oncologist before purchasing these items.
